✌ THE GUM WALL.
The Gum Wall is a brick wall situated beneath Pike Place Market in Downtown Seattle, Washington, United States. Located on Post Alley near Pike Street.💥
The wall is located in Post Alley adjacent to the box office for the Market Theater, a venue for comedy
shows and other small performances.
The wall is located in Post Alley adjacent to the box office for the Market Theater, a venue for comedy
shows and other small performances. After it became the host of Unexpected Productions' Theatresports in 1991, the theater's walls were
covered by patrons' pieces of used gum that had pennies pushed into them.
The important thing to note about the start of
Seattle’s Gum Wall is it wasn’t planned.
The wall covered with gum started to be considered as
a tourist attraction since 1999 some people started to create works of art with
chewing gum.
It was named one of the five most germ-contaminated
tourist attractions in 2009, and is a popular place to take pictures.
A scene from the 2009 film "love happens"
starring Jennifer aniston was shot at this location.
In 2015 the authorities decided that they should clean
the entire wall as it was eroding with all the sugar in the gum, in addition to
the great contamination that this generated, according to my research it
required more than 125 hours of work to remove most of the gum stuck on the
wall however people continued with the tradition of putting gum on the wall.
In conclusion a simple act can start a tradition that
grows year after year, and many tourist places have started this way without
thinking about it become attractions and a place to take a photo of the memory.
